When Melissa called to ask if I could do a photo shoot with her and her sister I was extremely excited to say the least. I have a sister so this session was pretty special to me. We had to cancel once due to those darn Orlando thunderstorms, but finally got a session in on a beautiful, but very hot Sunday. We drove to two separate locations and had a great time. There is something very special about the relationship between sisters and it was evident how close Melissa and Melanie are. I did photo shoots with my little sister when we were younger…you know those old Olan Mills studio shots-Mom and Dad would dress us in matching outfits (most likely ones that my mom made!) and we would pose in those uncomfortable positions! This photo shoot made me think of that, but these girls are in their 20’s relishing a relationship that is special to them and I was honored to be a part of that.

Your husband does what?…

September 28, 2009

Not many girls get to say that their husband is a professional juggler, just a handful I presume. I actually only know of a few myself. It’s not the typical answer people expect when they ask, “So, what does your husband do?” My answer to what my husband does is usually followed by, “Really?” Which I typically respond, “Yes, really, my husband is a professional juggler.” This usually requires a more lengthy answer because the person is not prepared with any of the typical follow up questions, such as “Where does he work?” My explanation is usually something like this: My husband is an entertainer. He has a teammate/business partner, Bill Berry, that he works with and they perform a comedy juggling show. They are Team Rootberry. They perform at colleges, corporate events, USO military tours and on cruise ships. This answer satisfies most of those typical questions they would ask, after which I get to have a very exciting conversation about the different aspects of my husband’s business and how he got into this juggling gig (starting with clown school…shhh don’t tell him I said.)  My husband has traveled extensively and I am hoping that he will be a guest writer on occasion to share with you some of his stories. Team Rootberry also teaches juggling workshops starting out with scarves. This is the most recent juggling workshop onboard a Royal Caribbean ship, which I was fortunate to be along for.

Ariel James is an aerial artist from California. She was in town visiting a friend and working on her promotional materials to prepare to launch her entertainment career. My husband helped to arrange a photo shoot with her and I was thrilled. She mainly needed headshots for business cards and postcards, so we had a great time walking around Lake Eola and shooting different shots for her promo pack. Ariel has since moved here to Orlando and has been training at a local club and teaching an aerial silks class at the Orlando Circus Arts School but best of all we have become friends. You can find out more information about what Ariel does at www.arielrose.info (that’s her Facebook Fan Page!) Ariel radiates beauty and came alive in front of the camera-every shot was great, it was really hard to just pick a few! For now enjoy these.

Grace

September 25, 2009

This is my favorite word of all the words ever! Not just because I need it on a daily basis but because of what it represents to all of us-unmerited favor. In the real world in which we live we are constantly told that we have to earn money, earn respect, earn the right to do something or to even feel a certain way but not with grace. It’s just given, unmerited…you don’t have to earn your grace and that gives me the comfort and peace in which I live by.

Karen is a really good friend of mine and I was so honored when she asked me to take her engagement photos. Karen had been dating Anthony for a few years and was truly hoping to be engaged to him by the end of 2008, but Anthony lead her to believe that was not going to happen (sneaky Anthony!) As you guessed, Anthony proposed to Karen on Christmas and they will be getting married on April 10, 2010. Karen and Anthony are two very special people and I am looking forward to their wedding next year-it will be classy, elegant, fun, dreamy and an extraordinary day. Here are a few shots of their engagement session.

Those Waves

September 23, 2009

It’s finally time. Time to start. Can I do this? I have been asking myself that a lot lately and it is time to find out. Jump in is what I think…with both feet…no trepidation. I thought about that this summer while I was in Bermuda. There was a massive school of fish that my husband wanted me to see, so I grabbed my mask and snorkel and began towards the ocean. Once there I found it difficult to get past the waves. My husband kept saying, “Just jump in” but I was being cautious and the waves kept pushing me back into shore. My husband came and got me and pulled me out until I was past the waves. Once past the waves I was free to explore the ocean and see the amazing school of thousands of tiny fish swimming in the ocean. What am I missing by not getting past those waves of fear? It’s time to find out.
