And the winners are…

October 19, 2009

Thanks to everyone who participated in my website and blog launch…”Five Days of Giveaways”! To pick the winners I decided to go old school and draw names out of  a bowl instead of using some fancy schmancy web program that randomly chooses-I wanted to be a more active part of it! So, I had fun writing everyone’s names on slips of paper, folding them and putting them in a bowl (ok…so that wasn’t the most fun part!) but I did have fun drawing the names out of the bowl and thinking about everyone that came and checked out my blog and website last week. My husband had this grand idea of filming me while I drew the names so to find out who won just watch the video! If you are one of the winners I will be contacting you soon. I would also like to thank Sweet Love Vintage, Team Rootberry and Pinkpunk Creative Designs for their donations-it sure made it a lot more fun!

I want to thank everyone that came by and checked out my website and blog. I truly appreciate all of the wonderful comments and support. I will be announcing the giveaway winners tomorrow, right here, so be sure and stop back by. Actually I hope you will stop by often. This blog will not only be about my adventures and aspirations as a photographer, but also about life, love, faith, being a wife, being a mom and everything in between. I started out on this whole photography journey a little late so I feel I have a lot of catching up to do. Actually I fell in love with photography at a very young age and became completely engrossed in high school where I spent every moment with my camera around my neck, was always in the darkroom and smelt like developer. I had dreams of going to Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California and becoming a photo journalist. So why the late start? What happened? My answer is a simple, “I don’t know”. I don’t know what happened, but I am grateful that it came back.

This is a photo I took and developed in high school of a favorite place I always used to go in La Jolla, California.
It has faded and doesn’t have the contrast it once did, but it still hangs in our home.

The Launch: Day 5

October 17, 2009

“Five Days of Giveaways” and it’s Day 5 already! For my final launch day I wanted a giveaway that represented a few important aspects of what I am rooted in, so when I found this inspirational plaque it was perfect. Not only does this plaque talk about laughter, but it speaks of laughter rooted in faith. I believe our days should be filled with laughter; laughter with your family, laughter with your spouse, laughter with your co-workers, laughter with your friends, laughter with the clerk checking you out at the grocery store, laughter with your children and all by yourself alone laughter! In need of a good out-loud laugh…find a video on YouTube, watch old “Friends” episodes or go see a good movie (a current laugh-out-loud good movie is “Couples Retreat”!) Above all remember where that laugh is rooted.

Can’t wait to hear your comments…

DAY 4 GIVEAWAY: Sandra Flores is the owner of Pinkpunk Creative Designs based out of Houston, Texas. I have known Sandra for about 8 years-she is extremely talented and creative and is actually the designer of my Cheri Root Photography logo (and a couple of Cody’s birthday invitations from a few years ago.) Pinkpunk has a genuine passion for design, giving every product a fresh, unique flaire!  Next time you need invitations, a greeting card, business cards, or even want a little pizazz to your business logo, contact Pinkpunk Creative Designs. Sandra graciously offered to donate 25 customized invitations, so whoever wins these will get to actually choose what they would like-yeah that’s custom!

Looking forward to your comments.

The Launch: Day 3

October 15, 2009

DAY 3 GIVEAWAY: My husband is a professional entertainer and juggler. I shared a little bit about him and what he does in a previous blog post. He is 1/2 of the comedy and juggling duo Team Rootberry with the other half being the sword-swallowing Bill Berry. Team Rootberry performs at colleges, on cruise ships, churches, corporate events and for the military. You can check them out in action on their YouTube channel, become a fan of theirs on Facebook or follow them on Twitter. It took a little arm-twisting but I convinced my hubby to donate a rockin Team Rootberry DVD! The DVD includes a Learn To Juggle segment, show highlights and Rootberry on ESPN 2.

So, you can go ahead and start commenting now!

The Launch: Day 2

October 14, 2009

DAY TWO GIVEAWAY: I can get lost for hours upon hours on etsy.com. My sister told me about this wonderful website about six months ago and I was shocked…I’m telling you “shocked”…that I had not heard of it earlier. One of my very favorite shops on Etsy is Sweet Love Vintage. Our home is an eclectic mix of old and new and I love my vintage antiques. I recently purchased an acrylic red “R” for my collection from this shop. Sweet Love Vintage has some amazing items and I encourage you to check out Sarah’s shop for unique vintage home decor and accessories. You can also follow Sarah on her Sweet Love Vintage Blog. Sarah generously donated this adorable little doe planter that can hold everything from toothpicks to your favorite color markers to photo strips of you and your love.

I will announce the winners in a very fun way (thanks to my hubby!) on Sunday, October 18th. Plus there are a few bonuses (can’t have a giveaway without a bonus!) Get some additional entries into the drawing…here’s how:

  • Follow me on Twitter
  • Tweet or announce my website launch on your Facebook (and let me know about it!)

So now onto the good stuff…

DAY ONE GIVEAWAY: I absolutely love to travel and have had the opportunity to go to some amazing places, mostly due to my husband’s traveling schedule. Several years ago when I got my passport I was thrilled and could not wait to have to show it for the first time, and why not show that baby off! So for all you travel junkies out there the first giveaway is this awesome sky blue genuine leather Belle Hop passport case.

Happy Commenting…

A Collection of R’s

October 11, 2009

My last name is Root. I got this last name when I married my husband, Jonathan Root. I am very traditional so taking my husband’s last name was very important to me and it is a pretty cool last name to have! As a way to show my pride and to honor my family roots I started collecting the letter “R”. My R’s are found in various places around our house and I thought I would share a few of them with you.

The holidays are upon us-it’s hard to believe (I think we say that every year!) So…it’s time to start thinking about your holiday family pictures and photo cards. I have a special photo shoot offer with some great holiday photo cards. Book your date now in time for ordering your cards and mailing. This is definitely my favorite time of the year-I look forward to sharing some holiday joy with you!

Patricia and Kevin became Mr. & Mrs. Lee on Saturday and it was a joy to be able to capture this special day for them. Patricia and Kevin celebrated their love along with their six children. Family came from New Jersey, Massachusetts and Puerto Rico. Patricia’s mom flew in from Puerto Rico and surprised her daughter. It was truly special to watch mother and daughter share this moment. After some good Puerto Rican food the dancing began with the kids leading the way. I want to wish Patricia, Kevin and their family a beautiful marriage-they are a special family and I thank them for making me a part of their day.
