I have done a couple of concept shoots for Rootberry (www.youtube.com/rootberry) and plan on doing a few more-they are a ton of fun with your goal being getting just that one great shot! They have already started to use a few of the shots on their website that they are updating and I can’t wait to do a few more (we have some really crazy stuff thought up!) I also did a photo shoot with just my hubby-one half of Rootberry (the Root half, of course!) He had a few ideas he wanted to try out and I was certainly game. So without further ado…here are the juggling and antics of my husband!

Wow! I haven’t done a Saturday Review since 2010 so I thought it was time to re-visit The Saturday Review on my blog with a book review. I just finished reading “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years” by Don Miller. Not since I read “A Purpose Drive Life” has a book so dramatically changed my perception of life. What are the moments that stand out in your life? What is the story you are telling? Are you taking the easy road or ready to take risks so that your story has meaning? What memories are you making? How is your story affecting those in your life? What is holding you back from living that really great story? What are those fears that don’t allow you to live the story you know you are destined to live? What are you doing to change the direction of your story? These are just a few of the questions I have started asking myself. They are certainly not easy answers nor do I expect to have all of the answers, but I have definitely been thinking about it and know that I never want to feel content. I know that may sound strange but I want to keep moving in the direction of telling a good story with how I live my life and I believe if we get content then we stop telling that wonderful and amazing story we have to tell.

As with all books I read, I highlight what stands out to me. Here are some of my highlights from “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years”…

“You get a feeling when you look back on life that that’s all God really wants from us, to live inside a body he made and enjoy the story and bond with us through the experience.”

“Your life is a blank page. You write it.”

“…he didn’t think we should be afraid to embrace whimsy. I asked him what he meant by whimsy, and he struggled to define it. He said it’s that nagging idea that life could be magical; it could be special if we were only willing to take a few risks.”

“Joy is what you feel when the conflict is over. But it’s the conflict that changes a person.”

“After a tragedy, I think God gives us a period of numbing as a kind of grace.”

“And yet I knew he was the only one with the power to make the pain go away.”

“…misery, though seemingly ridiculous, indicates life itself has the potential of meaning, and therefore pain itself must also have meaning.…life is a pursuit of meaning itself, and that search for meaning provides the basis for a person’s motivation. Pain then, if one could have faith in something greater than himself, might be a path to experiencing a meaning beyond false gratification of personal comfort.”

“…dwell in a  spiritual domain…”

“…surrender their tragic experiences to the greater whole of a grander epic, and in that role they found a purpose to continue living.”

“God says to Job, Job, I know what I am doing, and this whole thing isn’t about you.”

“He said to me I was a tree in a story about a forest, and that it was arrogant of me to believe any differently. And he told me the story of the forest is better that the story of the tree.”

“The truth is, the apostles never really promise Jesus is going to make everything better here on earth.”

The story of the parade in Chapter thirty-four ending with “Nobody gets to watch the parade.”

Ethan | Newborn Photographer

February 24, 2012

What a fortunate gal I am to get to travel all the way to Texas to hold this bundle of joy! Ethan arrived into the loving arms of his parents Angela and Brian after a very trying pregnancy. I think Angela was on bed rest for the better part of the last 1/3 of her pregnancy making sure Ethan did not arrive too early! Well she took extra good care of him as he arrived weighing in at 9 lbs. 6.6 oz. and just as healthy as he could be! By the time I could make it there he was almost 1 month old and ready to start exploring this wonderful world around him! Angela and Brian have had a lot of visitors and when I was there Ethan’s Great-Grandma was visiting so we made sure she had a photo moment with the little guy! So, Ethan, meet the world…

It was pure heaven to photograph sweet, precious Emmeline! And I honestly could not get over all of that gorgeous hair she already has! Emmeline threw her parents off a little by arriving a few weeks early so she is one month old here and already ready to conquer the world with her cuteness!

I have been wanting to do a photo shoot in an orange grove for a very long time now and when I mentioned it to Kelly and Efren they were as excited as I was! Little did I know that orange groves are evidently becoming scarce in Florida so it seemed like it was going to be a challenge to find one-especially within a reasonable distance. But find one we did and it turned out to be absolutely perfect! So we hung out in the grove, picked some oranges and I got to take some pictures of an absolutely beautiful couple who will be married in April. Kelly and Efren are especially sweet and super fun so I cannot wait for their wedding. My own hubby even tagged along for this shoot and caught some video of me in action, which I will post soon. For now enjoy some still shots of one of my dream shoots of this amazing couple…

She’s a Beauty…

February 18, 2012

When someone asks you to take a few pics of their Aston Martin…you kindly oblige…

I have been literally chomping at the bit to introduce a new product and could not be happier to do so today! In addition to custom cards, prints, albums and canvases I am going to begin offering a few specialty products, such as, storyboards and this beauty…a hot metal print on a floating frosted frame! This is available in five different sizes ranging from 8×10 to 16×24 (shown.) My wonderful mother was the tester for me and ordered this beautiful 16×24 of our family we took at Christmas. Images printed on metal do not look the same as printed on photo paper. The process is very different and the colors can vary slightly…so, I was not sure what to expect but once it arrived all I could keep saying was “Wow”. After she hung it up I could not stop looking at it-it is a stunner!

Please feel free to contact me with questions and pricing.

Rootberry | Fire on a Lake

February 8, 2012

So what do a unicycle, shopping cart, chainsaw, fire and a lake have in common?…Rootberry!

Now that my blog is finally back up I am super excited to post this family’s session! I spent a beautiful evening at a local Orlando park with Jason, Kate and adorable Coleman and have to say that Coleman is one of the most content babies I have ever met. He was a trooper through a few hours of shooting and three outfit changes! His blue eyes and perfectly chunky legs will melt your heart within seconds of meeting him so I thought you should really meet him too, but be prepared to melt…

My last photo shoot in Texas took place in south Texas with this beautiful family the day before I left. I actually met Laila (and cutie-pie Sophia) at Laila’s sister Sonia’s wedding in Florida. We met at a park/playground across from their home and I feel super fortunate to have gotten to hang out a little more with Sophia! She was a ton of fun in her little tutu and bow (which is my understanding that Aunt Sonia sent that!) I am currently putting together an amazing 20×20 storyboard for this family and once they pick the final images I will be thrilled to share that as well. For now here is the Gulley Family…
