Happy Fourth of July
July 4, 2011A Trip To Tallahassee
May 15, 2011My blog has been very lonely…mainly because I have been very busy! I have lots to share but have not had a chance to put together my blog posts-but they are coming soon. So, while I madly work on those, I thought I would share a little of my trip to Tallahassee with my son. Cody will be going to college at Florida State University in the fall so we made a short road trip just to “hang out”. We had a great time staying in the Hotel Duval-a very cool hotel located just a few blocks from downtown. We ate at an ultra hip sushi place-Jasmines and found an amazing pizza hang out-Momo’s Pizza. We got tons of FSU garb and walked around the campus. Cody took several of the shots below and we managed to get one on the self-timer. Here is our 24 hours in Tallahassee…
Easter at the Roots
April 24, 2011We, as a family, celebrate this day and all of what it means. Living in Orlando and not near any family we have started our own Easter Sunday tradition of brunch at Brio. Cody always tries something different, which impresses me and we, of course, get dessert. Cody got his Easter basket this morning and I think he was pretty excited. We are spending the rest of the day hanging out as a family-watching basketball, playing basketball, planting some veggies and plants and taking a bike ride around the lake and most of all…remembering why we celebrate today.
Happy Easter! Here is a little of our Easter Sunday…
Love Around the World
February 14, 2011My husband travels quite a bit. Whenever he is scuba diving, snorkeling, walking along the beach or taking a hike he is looking. Looking for heart shaped rocks, coral and shells for me. He has done this since we met. And I have saved them all. They are from everywhere. All around the world. I grabbed a few to share with you. And Fizz. We love her too.
My Own | Family Photographer
February 10, 2011The plan was for the entire Root family to go to Texas for Christmas but that did not work out-Jonathan got a last minute cruise ship gig and had to miss our trip to Texas (sad face). We wanted to have the entire family together for a Christmas Eve family photo shoot so…we were minus one but, as always, he was there in spirit and we all missed him. My Mom and Dad live in Frisco, Texas which is north of Dallas. Cody and I flew into Dallas and we all drove down to Richmond, Texas (right outside of Houston) to my sister’s house for the holiday. My sister Shelley and her husband James have four children-my niece Emily and my nephews James, Aaron and Daniel. It meant so much to me to spend Christmas with my family all together and I hope to share that soon as well. This is my family whom I love with all I am.
YouTour: 2011 | Orlando Event Photographer
January 24, 2011YouTour 2011 kicked off on January 18th at the Osceola Performing Arts Center in Kissimmee. This was an event that was put together, arranged and produced by Stirfry TV. Performances from well-known YouTubers included: Rootberry, Cool Guy with Glasses, Avery, Michael Buckley from “What the Buck?” and Shane Dawson. I linked to all of their YouTube pages if you want to check out what they do. I was thrilled when asked to be the official photographer for the event, which all began with a Meet and Greet where all of the performers gathered to sign autographs and talk to the fans. We met people that came from Canada, North Carolina, California and the UK (oh and of course Florida!) The event was a huge success and I know Stirfry TV is hoping to take YouTour on the road to visit other cities. All of the performances were amazing, and being a YouTube event I think I was one of the few there taking still shots as everyone else was taping, so here is YouTour through my eyes…
California Girl: Paula | Portrait Photographer
January 18, 2011Sweet Paula. This is how we commonly refer to my cousin and if you know her or ever get the opportunity to meet her you will understand why. During my trip to California I wanted to make sure we fit in a photo shoot for Paula. When Paula’s brother, Bobby, came to Orlando we did a little mini session so now it was Paula’s turn. My Aunt Patty hopped into a few of the shots for some special mother/daughter time. It was cold…it was windy…and here is what I got…
A Fresh New Look for Cheri Root Photography
January 10, 2011It was time. Time for a fresh new look. Over the last several months, when I began trying to decide what that new look would be I began collecting items that inspired me. I then decided to write down words that I liked, related to and felt a connection with. Those words included:
sentimental nostalgic authentic pure genuine loyal tradition tranquility peaceful rustic primitive simple unsophisticated unpretentious humble comfort cherish hopeful spiritual graceThese words represent who I am and therefore what Cheri Root Photography is.
So…announcing a new fresh look…

September 11, 2010A College Trip | With the Roots
September 9, 2010Where did the time go? He was just starting Kindergarden and now we are choosing colleges. Yep…that’s how it happens. So in the pursuit of choosing a college we decided to take a weekend family trip up to Tallahassee and Gainesville to check out two Florida colleges-Florida State University and University of Florida. Cody has been an FSU fan since we said we were moving to Florida and he determined who his “team” was going to be. It is definitely his #1 choice but we were making the trip up north so decided to visit both schools. As soon as we drove onto the campus of FSU and saw the FSU Circus tent I was sold! We spent quite a bit of time on campus and were actually there on graduation day so we got to attend the screening of the MFA thesis films. Ten short films that blew us away-I could have sat through ten more. I can see why FSU is one of the top film schools in the nation. This is what Cody wants to do so it was a huge bonus to our day. That night we made our way to Gainesville and met up with YouTuber Steve Dez to watch the UFC fight. I think that made the trip all the more exciting for my hubby! Then it was onto UF where we started off visiting with some real life gators! We were all very impressed with the UF campus and although we were there on a Sunday we were able to pick up some information about the college and the bookstore was open so we got to check out the numerous choices of Gator apparel (tie, boxers, beanie, earrings…anyone?) Where will he go? Stay tuned…
