What To Expect

Booking A Session

Once you’ve decided I am the photographer for you feel free to contact me using the contact link/form at the top of this page or by email, text, phone or Facebook to book your session. We’ll chit chat and agree upon a date and time. There is a $75 non-refundable retainer due at the time of booking to hold your date. The remaining session fee, payable by cash, check or Paypal, is due on the day of your session. Keep in  mind that maternity sessions are best done in the third tri-mester, ideally between 32-34 weeks and newborn sessions within the first 14 days of birth. The exact date of newborn sessions are not finalized until after the baby is born but be sure to get your due date on the calendar.

I am an on-location photographer so your session will be held on location outdoors or in your own home. You can specify your location preference when you book your session but if you don’t have anything in mind tell me about the feel and spirit you want your images to have and I can give you some great ideas. I love shooting in all different types of locations from rustic urban areas to modern buildings to lakes and rivers! On location outdoor sessions are done at a variety of different places depending on the look of the photos you would like. Parks and wooded areas with lots of space to move and run around are popular as are urban downtown areas with unique architecture and design. In-home sessions take place in the comfort of a familiar location-your own home. The in-home sessions are even more special if they are conducted around a special family activity-something the family does together on a regular basis to capture those memories-such as baking cookies, reading a book, playing a game or bath time. Lifestyle portrait sessions are all about capturing the essence, uniqueness and authenticity of your family-everything about you that is imperfectly perfect, so wherever that is…we’ll go there!

What to Wear

Clothing is an important part of your images. Your clothes should feel good-they do not have to be brand new (a ripped pair of jeans or old worn out Converse are perfect if they are your style.) If you don’t normally dress up then don’t feel like you have to for your session but definitely step it up a notch from your everyday. There is no need to match from head to toe or put everyone in the same outfit-coordinate without matching is the preferred choice when dressing for a photo session. For family sessions I recommend picking a few colors and sticking to them for the entire family. Matching too much can look a little overdone, the key is to coordinate yet be unique, not look alike. Comfort is important especially for the kiddos. If they are uncomfortable those smiles will be hard to come by. Your clothing should match your body type and reflect your personality. Bottom line is if you don’t feel fabulous you won’t like the end result and I want you to LOVE the end result! If you need additional help just ask me, I can provide some recommendations and even have some inspiration boards on Pinterest for you to check out!

Preparing for Your Family Session

Once you book your session I will send you a Preparing for Your Photo Session guide with all sorts of information on prepping for your session-kids, dad, what to wear…and more! A photo session with me is relaxed, spontaneous and I’m never in a rush…so let’s have some fun! All I ask is that you come rested and leave everything up to me.

Preparing for Your Newborn Session

Once your sweet one makes his/her entrance into this wonderful world please contact me as soon as possible to schedule your newborn session. Newborn sessions are best done within the first 14 days. Once your newborn session is booked I will send you a session packet with information on preparing for your newborn session-sleeping, eating, what to wear…along with a few more tips. There’s a tad bit more that goes into a newborn session and we want the little one to be comfortable the entire time so I’ll ask you to do a few things before I arrive to prepare. My newborn sessions are lifestyle sessions, which means I will incorporate all aspects of your home including the nursery and all members of the family (mom, dad, siblings, pets!) Newborn sessions also last a little bit longer as I do allow time for breaks, feedings and snuggling.
